Prelim Task; Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

My magazine front cover uses real form of conventions by the image as it is a medium shot and in most fashion magazines there is a medium shot showing clothes and the face of the model. Also, I have also used numbers as one of my cover lines because this follows conventions and makes the magazine look like there is good information about fashion inside the magazine.  Another way I have used real convention is by using fashion cover lines for example “The new it bags revealed.” As well as following convention this will also intrigue my target audience as they preferred to see trends. Furthermore, I have followed convention by matching my models prop colour which was her flower with her name so the audience knows who she is, in big bold text.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Firstly, I learnt how to use a professional camera to take my shots as I had never used a professional camera before. I learnt about lighting, angles and how I’m going to use mis en scene to intrigue my readers in. Then I used online websites like prezi and Google slides for my blog so it won’t look boring. I did my introduction on Google slides and research rationale on prezi – I did not know how to use this but when I played around with it, I learnt quite a lot. Lastly, I learnt how to use the hardest software which was Photoshop. At first I was confused as I didn’t understand how to use it and wasted time. But afterwards I watched some YouTube videos and worked hard to understand what Photoshop was all about – now I’m really confident for my real Task in September.

What will you look to improve on for your NEA?

To improve my NEA, I should learn how to manage my time and be up to date with homework’s and tasks. I did manage to put all my tasks on my blog but If I had given more time I could’ve done extra tasks as well. Other than that, my research and planning went well. Next time I’ll successfully manage my time as now I have experience.

What have you learned about yourself from the process?

First of all, I need to be patient because all good things take time as I thought I was going to the make the worst fashion magazine in history since photoshop wasn't working with me but in the end, my magazine turned out to be one of the best ones. I have always liked the practical side of media studies more as it brought out my creative side and clearly this will help me in the future because I’m getting more experience about graphic designing. I have treated media studies with respect and always will x

Prelim Task; My fashion magazine!

Prelim Task; Statement of intent

I intend to produce a front cover page of a fashion magazine aimed at 14 -18 year olds (mainly female). The language that would be used will be unique as it is going to be eye-catching for example the word "win!". The camera shots used on the front cover will be a medium shot or long medium shot so the target audience can see the clothing of the model. This will also suggest that the model is trying to communicate with the reader from her angle of gaze as this is quite close to her face. My model will wear a sophisticated dress which will make the model look professional and mature; this will vanish the negative stereotypes surrounding teens. Also, my model will have a little prop e.g. a flower since my target audience preferred this because young teenagers like the soft and subtle look in the summer. My main image will be shot in a studio which will make it look professional. The facial expression of my model will be in between serious, strong and proud which relates to my masthead giving the connotations of empowerment. This has given me confidence as I definitely know that my target audience will read my magazine as it's what my audience wants to see.

My front cover will have serif font that is going to stand out which will mainly have upper case letters, this show’s it for women/girls who are into real fashion shows in Paris and New York as my magazine will catch up with high end clothing. The name of the magazine will be Flames which gives the connotations of fire and therefore relates to power for women. I like how I made a word that has nothing to do with fashion sound so powerful - so I hope this catches their attention.

Prelim Task; Fashion Magazine Timeline

In this research I have found out that Fashion magazines in the 1900's had drawings of the model on the front cover as they had no cameras at that time and soon technology started get smart, therefore now in the 1930's in the industry they started having pictures of real people on the front cover.

Prelim Task; Test shots

These are my test shots that I decided to take so my decision can be easier when choosing the initial one. I took medium shots so the back of my model can show which gives it more of a sophisticated young look. Furthermore, I took some images outside because the natural sunlight can give natural lighting making the model glow. I also took long shots as I drew that in my shot lists giving me a selection.
